Topic: Category Module - Search Error

To search on one of the other columns Click the 'All Components' button. Then go to the column you want to search on and click the column header (the column name cell). A small menu appears. Select 'Filter' to filter on whatever text you're looking for.

| By: Guest | Posted on: Nov 30 2025 at 07:28:52 PM | Hello,
I am searching in the search box located at the bottom right of the section grouped by category and supplier under the Components module. The results are not working properly or are not working at all. Also, the system is case-sensitive when searching. I kindly request that you fix this issue. I request that you ensure that the same product appears even when searched for in lowercase letters.

MiniMRP does NOT execute any case sensitive searches. If you search for THING or thing you should find all records containing that word word even as tHiNg, THing or THINg.
But.
I assume you are using a MySQL or MariaDB Server? It is true that those servers 'can' be configured to be strictly case sensitive. The server default is usually case insensitive but, for some reason, your server administrator may have enable case sensitivity when creating the server which would then, of course, mean that any databases installed in that server are also case sensitive.
So. It's a server setup thing. Not an application thing.

This is how it is supposed to work.
1 . The search box in the bottom right corner can only be used to search Part Number and Description. When you use that search then the grid is cleared and a new set of rows is collected from the database matching the search criteria. Each search replaces the previous search.
Using the search box in the bottom right corner clears all filters and applies a new Search on the database.
2. 'Filter' only filters what is already visible on the display. It does not search the database again.
3. Adding a filter does not replace a previous filter. So if you filtered the 'Description' column for the word 'Widgit' and then filtered the 'Detail' column for the word 'Blue' then both filters apply and the result would be your Blue Widgits. You can add any number of filters on any columns and the filters all apply. To remove all filters click the Refresh' button.
4. The Refresh button clears all filters and search. ie loading everything again.
There can be confusion with 'Searching' and 'filtering' so maybe don't use the Search. Just load everything into the grid and apply filters to it.
How does that affect the grouping components 'By Category' or 'By Supplier'. This can also be a little confusing.
When viewing, for example, components by supplier there's a little [+] or [-] button beside each supplier's name. use that to expand or collapse a group.
Remember that a filter only filters what is visible on the display. If a supplier's group is not expanded then the filter will not be applied to that group. If you added a filter and then expanded a supplier group that supplier's rows will include things that are not excluded by a previous filter.
I agree that there could be some confusion in the way the search, filters and Groups work but they've worked that way for many many years and many many users are using them the way they are. Might take a little while to get used to how they work but they do work and we're reluctant to change that.
However. If you think that there's a bug and something doesn't work as I've described then please say so. I may have described it wrong, at I'll correct my statement, or, if there's a genuine bug we'll fix it.
